How to remove metadata from a photo

    1. Drop your photos into the box, or tap it to choose them.
    2. Each photo shows what was found, such as the location, the camera or phone model and the date it was taken.
    3. Download the cleaned photos one at a time, or all together as a zip, and share those instead of the originals.

    What photo metadata reveals

Phones and cameras save extra information inside every photo, called EXIF data. It often includes the exact GPS location where the photo was taken, the date and time, and the make and model of the phone. A photo of your new sofa can quietly give away your home address to anyone who downloads it.

Some sites, such as Facebook and Instagram, strip this data when you upload. Email, messaging apps that send original files, cloud links, forums and online marketplaces often keep it. Cleaning photos yourself means you don't have to rely on each site.

This tool removes the metadata blocks from the file directly, so the photo is not recompressed and keeps its full quality. If a photo was taken sideways, the rotation setting is kept so it still displays the right way up. Color profiles are kept so colors look the same.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read and cleaned in your browser, so they never leave your device.

Can I remove metadata from iPhone HEIC photos?

Convert them with the HEIC to JPG tool first. The converted JPGs don't carry over the original metadata, but you can drop them here to check.

    Does it remove everything?

It removes EXIF (including GPS), XMP, IPTC and comment data, plus any extra images stored after the main photo, such as previews or HDR data. It keeps only the color profile and, when needed, the rotation setting.

How do I stop my phone adding location to photos?

On iPhone, go to Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, Camera, and choose Never. On Android, open the Camera app settings and turn off location tags or save location.
