How to convert Markdown to HTML

  1. Type or paste your Markdown into the left box, or open a .md file such as a README.
  2. The preview shows the formatted result as you type. Switch to HTML code to see the markup.
  3. Click Copy HTML to paste it into a website, blog editor or email template, or download it as an .html file.

Markdown that works here

The converter follows the GitHub flavor of Markdown, the version used in README files, issues and many note apps. On top of headings, bold, italics, links, images, lists and quotes, it handles tables, task lists written as - [ ] and - [x], ~~strikethrough~~, fenced code blocks with ``` and web addresses that turn into links on their own.

In standard Markdown a single line break doesn't start a new line, and you need a blank line between paragraphs. Tick Treat every line break as a new line if your text was written the other way, as is common in chat messages and comments.

Tick Download as a full web page to get a complete HTML document with simple, readable styling that you can open in any browser or send to someone.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded?

No. The Markdown is converted in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.

Can I use HTML inside the Markdown?

Yes. HTML tags in your Markdown are kept in the output. The preview leaves out scripts and other active content to keep this page safe, but the HTML code includes everything you wrote.

Does it add CSS to the HTML?

The copied HTML is plain markup, so it takes on the styles of the page you paste it into. Only the full web page download includes its own styling.
