How to generate a random number

  1. Enter the lowest and highest number you want, or tap one of the quick ranges. Both ends can be picked.
  2. Set how many numbers you need. Tick No repeats to make sure no number comes up twice, as in a raffle or lottery draw.
  3. Click Generate, then copy the numbers or download them as a text file.

Is it truly random?

The numbers come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used to create security keys. Every number in the range has exactly the same chance of being picked, including the lowest and highest.

That makes it suitable for picking raffle winners, choosing a random sample from a numbered list, assigning people to groups, or settling who goes first. For a draw, number your entries, set the range from 1 to the number of entries and generate as many winners as you need with No repeats ticked.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. Any whole numbers work, for example from -50 to 50.

How do decimals work?

Tick Decimals and choose how many places. The tool then picks evenly from every value at that precision, so from 0 to 1 with two places it can return 0.00, 0.01 and so on up to 1.00.

Why does No repeats say there aren't enough numbers?

Without repeats you can't ask for more numbers than the range holds. From 1 to 10 there are only 10 different numbers, so asking for 12 is impossible.

Is a record of my numbers kept?

No. The numbers are created in your browser and disappear when you leave the page. Nothing is sent or stored.
