How to convert CSV to Excel

    1. Drop one or more CSV files into the box, or paste CSV data copied from another program.
    2. Check the preview. The delimiter is detected for you, whether it's a comma, semicolon, tab or pipe.
    3. Click Download Excel file to save an .xlsx workbook that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice.

Why not open the CSV in Excel directly?

When Excel opens a CSV file it guesses what each value is, and it often guesses wrong. ZIP codes like 02134 lose their leading zero, phone numbers turn into numbers, and long IDs such as card or order numbers get rounded to something like 1.23457E+15.

This converter only turns plain numbers into Excel numbers. Values with leading zeros and numbers longer than 15 digits stay as text, so they look exactly as they did in the CSV. Columns are sized to fit their contents, and with a header row each column gets a filter button.

Untick Store numbers as numbers to keep every value as text.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is my data uploaded?

No. The workbook is built in your browser, so your CSV files never leave your device.

Can I combine several CSV files into one Excel file?

Yes. Add all the files and each one becomes its own sheet, named after the file. Pasted data becomes an extra sheet called Pasted.

My accented letters look wrong. What can I do?

The tool reads files as UTF-8 and switches to the older Windows encoding when a file doesn't look like UTF-8, which fixes most files saved by Excel. If letters still look wrong, open the CSV in a text editor, save it as UTF-8 and try again.
