How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box, or tap it to choose the file.
  2. Pick where the numbers go and how they look, for example Page 1 of 10 at the bottom center.
  3. Click Add page numbers. The numbered copy downloads with the original file name plus -numbered.

Skipping a cover page

Enter 2- in the Number pages box to leave the first page blank. Then choose what the first numbered page should say: keep Start counting at 1 if the page after the cover should read 1, or change it to 2 if the cover counts as page 1.

Numbers are added as real text in a standard font, so they stay sharp when printed and zoomed. Pages that are stored sideways in the file still get their numbers the right way up.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The numbers are added in your browser, so the PDF never leaves your device.

Will the numbers cover my content?

They sit in the margin, which is empty on most documents. If a page has text close to the edge, choose a different position or a smaller margin.

Can I number a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Open it with its password in your PDF reader, save a copy without the password, and number that copy.
