How to convert CSV to JSON

  1. Open a CSV file, drop it onto the box, or paste the data. Data copied from Excel or Google Sheets works too.
  2. The JSON appears straight away. With First row is a header on, each row becomes an object that uses the column names as keys.
  3. Copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

Objects or arrays?

With a header row, the output is a list of objects such as {"name": "Ann", "age": 34}, which is what most APIs and JavaScript code expect. Turn the header option off to get a list of arrays instead, one per row, with no keys.

The delimiter is detected automatically, so files separated by commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes all work.

Frequently asked questions

Is my CSV uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.

Why did my ZIP codes lose their leading zeros?

Convert numbers and true/false turns "02134" into the number 2134. Turn the option off to keep every value as text exactly as it appears in the file.

What happens with duplicate column names?

The second column gets a suffix, such as name_1, so no data is overwritten.
