How to convert Excel to CSV
- Drop your .xlsx or .xls file into the box, or tap it to choose the file.
- Pick the sheet you want. A preview of the first rows appears below.
- Click Download CSV, or download every sheet as separate CSV files in a zip.
What gets converted
CSV holds plain values only, so each cell is saved the way Excel displays it. Dates keep their visible format, formulas are replaced by their results, and formatting such as colors, fonts and merged cells is dropped. Empty rows at the end of the sheet are skipped.
The file is read with SheetJS, an open source spreadsheet library, entirely inside your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Is my spreadsheet uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser, so payroll, customer lists and other sensitive sheets stay on your device.
Why are there several sheets in the list?
An Excel file can hold many sheets (the tabs at the bottom in Excel), but a CSV file holds only one. Pick a sheet, or use All sheets to get one CSV per sheet.
Can it open password-protected Excel files?
No. Remove the password in Excel first (File, Info, Protect Workbook), save a copy and convert that.
